WHR Registered Black Brangus
WHR, managed by Don and Sue Williams has a small herd of Registered Black Brangus Cattle. We plan to stay relatively small so that we can better manage the quality of Brangus that we raise. We usually have a Fall calving season and a Spring weaning, however, this year things are changing and we will have a Spring and Fall calving season. All animals are kept on a strict immunization and deworming program.
During our first few years of breeding Brangus, we were fortunate to have First Mate of Brinks as a herd sire. His Spring 2011 EPD's put him in the Top 15% for SC, Top 20% IMF, and Top 4% for F.T. Several of our existing cows are out of him and have acquired his EPD's.
In 2007, we added AI to our breeding program in order to upgrade our herd. We chose semen from Csonka of Brinks and Newt of Brinks. We kept 2 heifers out of Csonka of Brinks.
We continued our goal for quality in the 2008 breeding season by going back to the old foundation bloodline of Geronimo of Brinks and using his son from the 789 cow family. We were able to do this with the help of Mary and Geroge Escobar.
Many thanks to Mary and George for helping us with this endeavor. The 2011 Birth Weight EPD of their bull McMullen's Geronimo Hotline or "PaPa" was Top 15%. PaPa is a maternal bull and has produced only 4 bull calves in all the years he has been used as a herd sire and he was 11 years old in October of 2010. Of those 4 bull calves, 2 were produced in the 2009 fall calving season at WHR. As a footnote, upon PaPa's return to EBR he proceeded to produce 2 more bull calves. I guess WHR changed his perception of things!

All of our calves this Fall were out of Mr Brinks Sundance whose Birth Weight EPD isTop 5%. This fall his yearling bull calves weighed 964-1068 lbs. and have already been sold. These Sundance calves are on their feet quickly and most are show prospects. However, the most important trait that he passes on to his offspring is his gentle disposition.
You will find pictures of the Sundance heifers on our "Heifer" page and the bull calves on the "Bulls" page.
We kept 2 of the Geronimo heifers and have already turned Sundance in with them. Because of the age of these heifers, we will be having calves out of them in February of 2012.
Our plan for the heifers from 2010 is to put one in with "Mr. T" and the other will be AI's to Skyhawk Brangus' Presidente bull.
