WHR Registered Brangus
WHR, managed by Don and Sue Williams has a small herd of Registered Brangus Cattle. We plan to stay relatively small so that we can better manage the quality of Brangus that we raise. We have a Fall calving season and a Spring weaning. All animals are kept on a strict immunization and deworming program.
During our first few years of breeding Brangus, we were fortunate to have First Mate of Brinks as a herd sire. His 2010 EPD's put him in the Top 15% for Maternal Milk, Top 20% Maternal M & G, SC; the Top 25% for %IMF; and Top 15% for F.T. Some of our exixting cows are out of him.
In 2007, we added AI to our breeding program in order to upgrade our herd. We chose semen from Csonka of Brinks and Newt of Brinks. We sold all of our bull calves from the AI but maintained 2 heifers out of Csonka of Brinks and have them bred to Mr Brinks Sundance for calving in the Fall of 2010.
We continued our goal for quality in the 2008 breeding season for Fall 2009 calving by going back to the old foundation bloodline of Geronimo of Brinks and using his son from the 789 cow family. We were able to do this with the help of Mary and Geroge Escobar who manage the Escobar Brangus Ranch.
Many thanks to Mary and George for helping us with this endeavor. The EPD's of their bull McMullen's Geronimo Hotline or "PaPa" are: Top 15% Birth Weight; Top 20% Maternal Milk; 90% Weaning Weight; and 85% Yearling Weight. PaPa is a maternal bull and has produced only 4 bull calves in all the years he has been used as a herd sire and he turned 10 years old in October of 2009. Of those 4 bull calves, 2 were produced in the 2009 fall calving season at WHR. As a footnote, upon PaPa's return to EBR he proceeded to produce 2 more bull calves. I guess WHR changed his perception of things!
We also bred two heifers to Mr Brinks Sundance whose EPD's are:Top 25% Birth Weight and IMF; Weaning Weight 90%; and Yearling Weight 85%. He produced a bull calf, which is at WHR, and a heifer calf that was sold.
For the 2009 fall breeding season, we used Mr. Brinks Sundance for our 2 Csonka heifers and our cow herd. We are looking forward to the coming crop of calves out of him and if the previous season is any indication of what he is going to produce, we will NOT be diasppointed!
You will find pictures of the Geronimo heifers on our "Heifer" page and the bull calves on the "Bulls" page.Below are the registered bred cows that we have for sale.
In order to make room for the heifers that we will keep, we are selling 3 of our Registered Brangus cows (pictured above) that were exposed to Mr Brinks Sundance and are due to calve October-December 2010. They are between 5 and 7 years of age and have been good producers for us giving us a calf every year.Their weights are from 1150 and 1400 lbs. Background information and EPD's are available on request.
